Michael is working towards a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in a biomedical lab, trying to combine nuclear fusion and medical devices. His calculators reflect not only his varied interests but also his goal — to make complex concepts as approachable as possible. In his free time, he enjoys bodybuilding and coaching, using his scientific knowledge to optimize even something as simple as making gains.

Swansea UniversityBachelor’s degree in Physics
Michael has always been interested in understanding how the world works, so he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physics. During that time, he discovered his passion for all things health-related. After working on artificial aortic valves during a summer internship and attempting to make an artificial muscle for his final project, he was offered a PhD focusing on quantifying the fluid-structure interaction around complex geometries. Funded by the UK Atomic Energy Authority and supervised by the team from the Biomedical Engineering Simulation and Testing Lab, he focuses on the cooling of nuclear fusion reactors some days. In contrast, others are dedicated to medical devices, such as artificial heart valves. Being passionate about helping others, Michael teaches undergraduate students about programming and experimental mechanics. He is also certified by the International Sports Sciences Association as a specialist in bodybuilding, which aids his understanding of the human body and allows him to help others outside the laboratory.
